Romeo and Juliet (12+)

«It soon becomes obvious: the actors and actresses have their very own problems with love – whether young or old, whether in the 16th century or in the year 2021.»

We are in the Institute for Touching Love Stories, in the «Romeo and Juliet» department. Here everything is stored that has to do with the myth of Shakespeare’s famous lovers, from the anguished sigh of an actress playing Juliet shortly before the performance to the shortest student essay ever written on the subject. The keepers of the archive bring to life the most extraordinary Romeos and Juliets from over 400 years of performance history.

The FigurenTheater St.Gallen stages «Romeo and Juliet» in a co-production with the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst “Ernst Busch” Berlin in a surprising, tragicomic version with characters, video and live music. The story is told from many perspectives and little by little Shakespeare’s work is put together like a mosaic.

Professionals from the independent theater scene work at the FigurenTheater St.Gallen, supplemented by students from various universities. The theater presents a program with its own productions and guest performances for children, young people and adults. Traditional and modern forms of puppetry are combined with acting.
